ÖBB double-decker Railjet

The aim of the study was to evaluate and optimise the proposed passenger carriage design of the new Stadler KISS double-decker trains for ÖBB (double-decker Railjet) in terms of luggage storage options, achievable passenger boarding times and the expected utilisation rate based on customer behaviour.

Client: ÖBB Personenverkehr AG

Duration: 2023

Project description: The proposed passenger carriage designs for the new Stadler KISS double-decker trains for ÖBB (double-decker Railjet) were evaluated in terms of luggage storage options, achievable passenger changeover times and the expected utilisation rate based on customer behaviour. Based on the evaluations, recommendations were made for optimising luggage storage, accelerating passenger flow and thus shortening passenger changeover times for boarding and alighting scenarios with different numbers of passengers.
