Project description:
With the sharp increase in passenger numbers due to climate tickets and other season tickets, railway stations are increasingly reaching their capacity limits. Delays caused by overcrowded platforms affect punctuality and lead to high operating costs. Studies show that there is currently a lack of knowledge about the interactions between passengers and trains on platforms.
InfoTrainX addresses this issue and is developing a comprehensive concept that integrates gender- and diversity-specific needs. Inclusive symbols, gender-neutral language and accessible interfaces are intended to improve information uptake and thus promote the acceptance and use of rail transport.
The project is divided into the following steps
WP1 – Project management: coordination, quality assurance, documentation, public relations, inclusive research environment.
WP2 – Reference and project prerequisite analysis: analysis of legal, technical and operational framework conditions; stakeholder interviews; workshops.
WP3 – Data analysis and preparation: status quo, observation analyses on railway platforms, surveys, stakeholder interviews, validation through workshops.
WP4 – System design: definition and design of use cases, user stories, technical components and mock-ups.
WP5 – System evaluation: Testing of prototypes, pilot projects, empirical evaluation with passengers, gender and diversity aspects.
WP6 – Feasibility study: Evaluation of technical, legal and economic conditions, market and implementation analysis.
Expected results are:
– Development of an overall concept for a dynamic information and guidance system on the platform
– Integration of real-time data from the train into passenger information
– Improved passenger flow control, reduction of delays and passenger clusters
– Inclusive design through gender- and diversity-sensitive symbols, language and interfaces
– Increased punctuality, operational efficiency and customer satisfaction
– Scientific publications and practical recommendations for the railway industry
A novel feature is the integration of real-time IoT data between trains and platforms for dynamic control of passenger flows. InfoTrainX combines technical innovations with a comprehensive gender and diversity perspective, making the system barrier-free, inclusive and future-oriented. As a result, the project goes beyond existing research approaches and delivers practical solutions to the challenges posed by growing passenger numbers.
