German Railway 2 (ICE4)

The aim of the study was to compare the proposed design of the 2nd class middle coach for the new ICx trains of DB-AG with the 2nd class intermediate coach 403.7 of the ICE3 with regard to luggage accommodation, achievable passenger exchange time and theoretically achievable load factor.

Client: Deutsche Bahn AG; Sub for: TU Vienna, Research Center for Railway Engineering

Duration: 2013

Project description: Within the framework of a benchmark and using the findings from the project “Vehicle evaluation DB 1 (ICE4)”, the proposed design of the 2nd class middle coach for the new ICx trains (now ICE4) of DB-AG was compared with the 2nd class intermediate coach 403.7 of ICE3 with regard to luggage accommodation, attainable passenger exchange time and theoretically attainable load factor and assessed whether the parameters mentioned improve or deteriorate for the new vehicles taking into account the specified interior design.
